Position Title: Research Scientist in Advanced Materials at the Commonwealth of Virginia
The Commonwealth of Virginia is committed to fostering innovation and excellence in research. We are currently seeking a Research Scientist specializing in advanced materials for a funded research initiative. The key responsibilities include:
- Conducting innovative research in the fields of (nano)photonics and associated materials
- Mentoring students in research methodologies and supporting their academic projects
- Overseeing laboratory operations, performing minor repairs, software updates, and coordinating with service technicians
- Acquiring necessary equipment and supplies while managing vendor relationships
- Drafting technical documentation and contributing to scholarly publications
- Upholding laboratory safety standards
Essential Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Physics, Chemistry, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Proven research experience in (nano)photonics and related materials
- Proficiency in fabrication techniques, experimental methodologies, theoretical analysis, and computer applications
- Documented success through scientific publications and conference presentations
- Practical technical skills and experience in equipment maintenance
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with students, colleagues, and stakeholders
