Salary Range: UH9 £56,021 to £63,029 per annum, with opportunities for progression to £66,857 through annual increments based on skills and experience

Annual Leave Entitlement: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days, including the office closure during the holiday season

We are seeking an Academic Workload Allocation Manager to become a vital part of the University’s strategic planning team within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor (OVC).

This newly established role is designed to oversee the recently implemented academic workload allocation system and its related processes.

We are in search of a dedicated and innovative individual who can propel this initiative forward and integrate the new system in a collaborative and collegial manner, engaging with various stakeholders.

This pivotal position presents an excellent opportunity to join the expanding professional strategic planning team at the core of the University.

You will report directly to the Head of Planning and collaborate closely with our Executive team, particularly the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, as well as various teams throughout the University, including Deans of Schools and academic leaders.

The Academic Workload Allocation Manager will need to possess advanced technical skills alongside exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

We adhere to flexible location principles, with the expectation that the successful candidate will work on campus in Hatfield at least two days a week, or as required by business needs.

The successful candidate will join the University during an exciting phase as we finalize and unveil our next Strategic Plan.

There will be a two-stage recruitment process, including a presentation followed by panel interviews conducted at our College Lane campus.

Key Responsibilities

The Academic Workload Allocation Manager will be tasked with the development, management, and integration of the University’s new Workload Allocation Management System (WAMS), ensuring the effective operational delivery of the academic workload system (both IT and planning aspects) in alignment with the University’s objectives.

They will cultivate a comprehensive understanding of the new Academic Workload Allocation Framework, which serves as guidance for managers in allocating work to academic staff, as well as the workload activities and tariffs associated with it, and the Simitive Workload Allocation Management System (WAMS), including the calculations that drive the system and the related data interactions with other University systems.

As the internal system owner, you will be expected to formulate policies and procedures for workload management and collaborate with internal stakeholders and peer institutions to identify and implement best practices in workload management.

You will also provide support to the University’s governance group, senior management, and individual academic staff across the institution.
Required Skills and Experience
Considerable experience in a relevant position (e.g., Workload Manager, Management Information Officer, Data Manager, Data Business Partner), familiarity with a workload management system, and experience in drafting and overseeing the implementation of new policies and processes while providing guidance to staff are essential for this role.

You should also have a proven track record of establishing and maintaining successful working relationships, along with experience in balancing priorities and addressing the needs of competing stakeholders.

Excellent IT skills and proficiency with common software applications, including online tools for hybrid working arrangements, are required, as well as strong organizational skills and effective communication abilities with demonstrated tact and diplomacy when engaging with multiple stakeholders across the University.

Qualifications
A minimum of a Degree or equivalent experience at an appropriate level is required.
