About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Support Worker to join our team at Brook Early Years. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the SENDCo to implement duties relating to part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014, Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice: 0 to 25 years (DfE/DoH 2015) and the Equality Act 2010.
- Support curriculum areas in ensuring outstanding outcomes for SEND children.
- Develop curriculum resources to ensure that children identified as having SEN have the required levels of support.
- Provide guidance to colleagues on teaching children with SEN or a disability and advise on the graduated approach to SEN support.
- Assist with the development and actively promote and demonstrate creativity and innovation when searching out new strategies to support our SEND children.
- Lead and monitor appropriate intervention programmes for SEND children.
- Promote and embed whole school priorities and initiatives as appropriate within the setting.
- Assist the SENCO to evaluate, monitor and communicate the settings performance, priorities, and targets.
- Assist the SENCO in maintaining an accurate SEND register and provision map.
- Analyse data for children with SEN and/or a disability, liaise with the SENCO and teaching colleagues to implement appropriate interventions.
- Act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
- Help to set up for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session. To apply key elements of Pre-School routine, including staff rotas.
- Ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly, adhering to the Early Years Foundation Stage on e-learning journals.
- Assist with the planning of the curriculum using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for guidance. Including continuous, medium, & short-term plans, working alongside ECERS, Early Childhood Rating Scale.
- Work effectively as a team member, helping colleagues when needed.
- Be aware of one's own knowledge, skills and capabilities and recognise and act on relevant gaps.
- Attend relevant training to keep skills and knowledge up to date.
- Comply with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation.
Requirements:
- Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent.
- Good observation, identification, assessment, and record keeping skills.
- Proven experience of working within a childcare setting and some experience of working with children with SEN.
- Good knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation such as part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014, the SEND Code of Practice (Dfe/DoH 2015) and the Equality Act 2010, and how it relates to children with SEN within early years settings.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to foster relationships.
- Knowledge and experience of differentiating the early years curriculum for all children.
- Knowledge of the procedures for implementing a graduated approach through SEN Support.
- The ability to challenge and overcome negative attitudes and discriminatory behaviours from staff, parents and sometimes children.
- The ability to recognise what good practice 'looks like' and be able to confidently promote it.
- A commitment to promoting an ethos of effective inclusion to all users, visitors, staff, and the local community.
- A commitment to continuously promoting a culture of well-being and safeguarding.
- The ability to manage time and workload effectively.
- Knowledge of data protection and information management practices and their application within the setting.
- Willingness to undertake further training related to the role.
