Position Overview

Our indoor photovoltaic solutions deliver power to intelligent devices and sensors without relying on disposable batteries, offering a sustainable and economical alternative for energizing countless smart devices and sensors. Our outdoor photovoltaic systems exhibit cutting-edge performance, supplying electrical energy for micro-satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Lightricity is in search of a Satellite Systems Engineer to design and refine assembly and testing methodologies, as well as to automate processes for the integration and evaluation of ultra-efficient solar cells intended for satellite and spacecraft applications. The ideal candidate should possess a passion for hands-on work and hold a relevant degree in aerospace, electrical, or mechanical engineering (MSc or PhD preferred). Experience with space-grade components or systems (such as CubeSats) is advantageous but not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance and develop procedures for quality assurance and testing (mechanical, opto-electrical, thermal) of space solar cells and modules for satellites (including CubeSats and various spacecraft)
  • Integrate solar cells into both rigid and flexible modules or blankets for satellite and spacecraft applications
  • Establish automated testing and packaging processes (assembly and encapsulation)
  • Contribute to the company's research and development initiatives
  • Draft technical documentation and specifications

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with solar cells and characterization techniques
  • Knowledge of soldering and welding
  • Experience in laboratory and/or workshop environments
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively to meet stringent deadlines
  • A collaborative team member with strong communication abilities
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in clean room settings
  • Hands-on soldering and welding experience
  • PCB design and manufacturing knowledge
  • Experience with space solar cells (including compound semiconductors) and/or modules
  • Familiarity with lamination and/or encapsulation techniques
  • Understanding of Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) principles
