Base Materials Ltd is a chemical engineering firm operating across two facilities, focusing on the production of innovative styling, modelling, and tooling materials essential for creating high-quality precision moulds, master models, jigs, and fixtures. Our diverse clientele spans various sectors, including automotive, aerospace, motorsport, marine, and other industrial applications.

As part of our strategic growth initiative, we are looking to enhance our internal capabilities with a newly defined Project Manager position. In this role, you will oversee the comprehensive management of extensive, multi-phase projects. Your responsibilities will begin with collaborating with the commercial team to generate quotes, pricing, and lead times for our clients. Once an order is confirmed, you will work closely with the engineering team to develop the Bill of Materials (BOM) and relevant operational documentation, managing the workflow through the production process until the order is fulfilled. You will be responsible for coordinating internal resources and third-party services to ensure the successful execution of multiple complex projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to scope, and budget compliance while keeping clients informed of project progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define project scopes and objectives, engaging all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Create a detailed project plan to monitor progress.
  • Schedule and track project tasks to ensure quality and timely completion.
  • Develop revenue models and financial forecasts; prepare budgets and manage expenditures while analyzing variances and implementing corrective actions.
  • Oversee daily operational aspects of the projects.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation, adapting to changing needs and responsibilities.
  • Utilize appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Maintain communication with clients to keep them updated.
  • Measure project performance using suitable systems and tools.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • Conduct risk management to mitigate project risks.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with suppliers and collaborate closely with internal quality and procurement teams.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Regularly report project status to stakeholders, including the Directors.
  • Implement lean manufacturing principles (Six Sigma, 5S) to achieve zero defects and customer complaints.
  • Maintain open communication with management regarding significant issues that may impact operational objectives.

Management and Team Development:

  • Lead by example to mentor, train, and develop team members towards high performance and collaboration.
  • Assist with recruitment, performance management, and disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Ensure all operational team members understand and own the operating objectives and performance standards.
  • Support the professional growth and development of team members.

Qualifications:

  • Project management certification (PRINCE II preferred but not mandatory).
  • Engineering qualification, preferably a Diploma/Degree in engineering, polymer science, or a related field.
  • Ability to interpret technical plans and drawings.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and reporting to facilitate project management and decision-making.
  • Experience in SME manufacturing and multi-site operations, ideally from an engineering planning background.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques, particularly Lean Six Sigma.
  • Quality-focused with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic and accountability, serving as a role model for the team.
  • Ability to streamline operations to ensure product quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ISO9001 and ISO45001 standards.
  • Familiarity with the buoyancy industry.
