Responsibilities of the Custodial Operations Manager

In your role as Custodial Operations Manager, you will play a vital part in safeguarding the welfare of both staff and inmates at HMP Millsike. Your duties will encompass:

  • Ensuring adherence to contractual obligations, organizational policies, and HMPPS standards.
  • Direct management of Prison Custody Officers and Operational Support Grades.
  • Supporting, supervising, and motivating staff to provide effective services throughout the facility.
  • Leading the establishment of a safe, secure, and respectful environment, promoting a rehabilitative culture for all.
  • Implementing safeguarding measures to protect the welfare of inmates and their families.
  • Utilizing a trauma-informed methodology to aid recovery and rehabilitation.
  • Collaborating with partners and service providers to formulate strategic initiatives and promote ongoing improvement.
  • Delivering comprehensive staff care and well-being support through supervision and training.
  • Upholding high standards of cleanliness, order, and security.

Candidate Profile

  • Prior managerial experience
  • Basic to intermediate IT proficiency: e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, along with experience in updating central data systems
  • Familiarity with relevant prison legislation, policies, standards, and inspection processes is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a custodial or secure environment is preferred but not essential.
