Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute Stroke service at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, the vacancy seeks to employ either a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner at band 7 with progression to an 8a, or a qualified ACP at band 8a level.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work within the 4 pillars of advanced practice as per job description and formal job plan.
  • Provide expert assessment skills for patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a suspected acute stroke.
  • Manage hyperacute stroke pathways and access to reperfusion interventions such as intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.
  • Practice both independently and in partnership with the multidisciplinary team under the clinical supervision delegated by a consultant and/or Specialist Registrar and/or under the guidance of the Lead ACP.
  • Undertake advanced clinical assessment of the patient, analysing complex clinical signs, findings from physical examination, patient history, and investigation results to diagnose stroke/non-stroke medical/surgical conditions whilst considering differential diagnoses and initiating treatment.
  • Interpret clinical results and act on findings, initiating treatments accordingly.
  • Manage own autonomous caseload of patients through TIA clinic and work on a 1 in 3 weekend TIA rota for high-risk patients.
  • Take an active role in educating and developing members of the multidisciplinary team through formal and informal teaching sessions, including ED, ambulance service, medical teams.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of acute stroke, using information to affect change in practice and ensuring the effective dissemination of new knowledge.
