An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute Stroke service at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, the vacancy seeks to employ either a trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner at band 7 with progression to an 8a, or a qualified ACP at band 8a level.
Main Responsibilities- Work within the 4 pillars of advanced practice as per job description and formal job plan.
- Provide expert assessment skills for patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a suspected acute stroke.
- Manage hyperacute stroke pathways and access to reperfusion interventions such as intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy.
- Practice both independently and in partnership with the multidisciplinary team under the clinical supervision delegated by a consultant and/or Specialist Registrar and/or under the guidance of the Lead ACP.
- Undertake advanced clinical assessment of the patient, analysing complex clinical signs, findings from physical examination, patient history, and investigation results to diagnose stroke/non-stroke medical/surgical conditions whilst considering differential diagnoses and initiating treatment.
- Interpret clinical results and act on findings, initiating treatments accordingly.
- Manage own autonomous caseload of patients through TIA clinic and work on a 1 in 3 weekend TIA rota for high-risk patients.
- Take an active role in educating and developing members of the multidisciplinary team through formal and informal teaching sessions, including ED, ambulance service, medical teams.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of acute stroke, using information to affect change in practice and ensuring the effective dissemination of new knowledge.
