Role Overview:
As an SEN Specialist (Non-Verbal), you will be instrumental in providing tailored support to non-verbal students within the classroom setting. Collaborating closely with teachers and other staff members, you will use specialized strategies to facilitate communication and learning, ensuring that these students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted support to non-verbal students, using appropriate communication aids and strategies to facilitate their participation in classroom activities.
- Implement individualized learning plans and adapt teaching methods to meet the unique needs of non-verbal students.
- Observe and document students' progress, behavior, and communication, and provide regular feedback to teachers and relevant professionals.
- Assist in creating an inclusive and positive learning environment, promoting engagement and managing classroom behavior.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support the development and well-being of non-verbal students.
Requirements:
- Possess a relevant SEN qualification
- Previous experience supporting non-verbal students or those with significant communication needs in a primary school setting.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to use specialized communication tools and techniques effectively.
- Knowledge of SEN strategies and relevant educational frameworks tailored to non-verbal students.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Commitment to promoting inclusion, diversity, and equality in education.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) and relevant safeguarding training.
