About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Director to lead our Private Client Tax team at Johnston Carmichael.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients, ensuring a high-quality tax compliance service and providing high-level technical and tax planning advice to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Portfolio Management: Manage the client portfolio, build on existing relationships with clients and their wider professional network to ensure satisfaction with services provided.
  • Budget and Fee Management: Monitor budgets and prepare fees.
  • Technical Advice: Provide high-level technical and tax planning advice to clients, working as necessary with other Directors and Partners.
  • Strategic Targets: Ensure internal and external expectations are achieved, supporting the leadership team in setting and delivering strategic targets.
  • Team Collaboration: Liaise with the client service team and with colleagues in other disciplines to provide a coordinated service to clients.
  • Business Development: Develop and grow the department and the firm by identifying and progressing opportunities to promote the business in the marketplace, sourcing new opportunities and securing new work.
  • Technical Knowledge: Maintain an up-to-date technical knowledge of business tax, personal tax and capital taxes.
  • Mentoring and Training: Mentor, train, support and work delegation to team members, overseeing them in all aspects of the portfolio.
About You

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to positively impact and influence others.
  • Technical Expertise: Ability to work to a high standard of technical service delivery to clients.
  • Attention to Detail: High accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Relationship Building: Substantive, proven track record of building internal and external relationships and networks.
  • Compliance and Advisory Work: Practical knowledge of compliance and advisory work with the ability to support the wider team/firm to supply advice to clients when required.
  • Qualifications: Qualified CA (or equivalent) and above.
  • Leadership: A leader of your work and your professional learning.
