About the Role
The Principal Auditor will undertake assignments across Wandsworth and Richmond Councils, providing an independent evaluation of the adequacy and effectiveness of risk management and internal controls across various departments and areas. This role promotes the visibility of Internal Audit by sharing best practices and collaborating closely with senior management across the Councils.
This position will involve a diverse range of engagements, offering exposure to all departments, including functional audits, thematic reviews, advisory roles, and ad hoc assignments. This variety ensures comprehensive exposure to a wide array of the Councils' operations and processes, presenting excellent opportunities for future advancement within the Councils.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Who We Are Looking For
- Experienced auditor capable of working independently (or leading a small team) to deliver assigned audit outputs within quality and time constraints.
- Strong understanding of auditing principles, practices, and techniques, including technology-integrated audits.
- Knowledge of risks and controls related to local authority operations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Curiosity and critical thinking skills to challenge assumptions and provide valuable insights.
- Ability to establish strong relationships, communicate effectively, and influence senior stakeholders.
- Flexibility and adaptability to respond to evolving organizational needs.
- A commitment to continuous development of technical, organizational, and personal skills.
- Full (or part) qualification as a member of a CCAB body or equivalent (CMIIA, IIA, or AAT) or possess significant experience in internal or external audit. Familiarity with Power BI is advantageous, as the function is currently implementing a Data Analytics program.
