Job Summary:

Cognize Technical Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead our engineering team. As a technical expert, you will provide technical support and expertise to ensure the delivery of engineering projects and services to meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-depth technical support and expertise, including tasks such as bill of materials (BOM) checks, condition assessments, job pack creation, preparation for overhauls, fault investigations, and diagnosis.
  • Lead engineering change initiatives, concessions, method statements, component overhaul instructions, test procedures, and the design of tooling.
  • Conduct material analysis and comparisons, compile and review technical reports, and support preparation for First Article Inspections (FAIs).
  • Develop deep technical knowledge to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) with our mechanical systems.
  • Oversee the review and approval of work produced by other members of the engineering team, ensuring all outputs align with the organisation's quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and workshop fitters, fostering their development in product knowledge, safety practices, technical skills, and engineering processes.
  • Review and assess drawings, designs, and documentation produced for reverse engineering projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.

Requirements:

  • Minimum HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanically biased engineering discipline. A higher qualification is advantageous.
  • At least 7 – 10 years of professional engineering experience, with a strong balance of hands-on engineering, reverse engineering, testing, problem-solving, and technical process writing.
  • Extensive experience in conducting condition assessments, technical investigations, and managing engineering tasks from concept through to completion.
  • Familiarity with multiple industries, such as Automotive, Rail, Marine, Power, Renewables, Oil and Gas, Aviation, and others is highly desirable.
  • Must have a hands-on, flexible, and proactive approach to problem-solving and project management.
  • Fluent in technical and conversational English with strong communication skills to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates commercial awareness and experience, understanding the impact of engineering decisions on contracts and business outcomes.
  • A self-starter with a strong ability to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • A collaborative team player who is committed to continuous improvement and excellence in engineering.
  • IT literate with a good understanding of relevant engineering software and tools.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management system standards and production processes.
