Job Title: Staff Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our team at Opus Recruitment Solutions. As a key player in our team, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of scalable, high-performance cloud applications.

About the Role

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing robust server-side logic, ensuring optimal performance and responsiveness for both front-end and event-driven API requests. You will work closely with engineers, data scientists, and front-end developers to create innovative solutions that accelerate chemical discovery and transform the landscape of materials science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and implement scalable, high-performance cloud applications using Python (FastAPI/Django/Flask), SQL, and ORM frameworks such as SQLAlchemy.
  • Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and front-end developers to create innovative solutions that drive delivery and requirements specifications.
  • Contribute to accelerating chemical discovery and transforming the landscape of materials science.
Requirements
  • Strong experience with Python (FastAPI/Django/Flask), SQL, and ORM frameworks such as SQLAlchemy.
  • Expertise in Kafka and/or RabbitMQ.
  • Some experience with cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Understanding of object-oriented techniques and fundamental design principles & patterns underlying cloud applications.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment procedures and tools.
  • Strong experience with Docker.
  • At least 10 years of experience writing production-grade, high-quality code in industry.
  • Strong work ethic and growth mindset.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of NoSQL, Graphs, and TimeSeries databases.
  • Startup experience.
  • React & TypeScript.
  • Agile development methodologies.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Knowledge of data science, chemistry, and the scientific process.
