Fire and Security Systems Apprentice

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Fire and Security Systems Apprentice.

About the Role

As a Fire and Security Systems Apprentice, you will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining fire and security systems across our vast network of stations, depots, and offices. You will work closely with our experienced engineers and technicians to ensure that our systems are functioning correctly and that our customers receive the highest level of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and commission fire and security systems on site
  • Carry out routine testing and inspections of emergency systems to ensure compliance with industry safety standards and regulations
  • Work various shift patterns, including nights and weekends
  • Learn and master the health and safety requirements of the role and understand the importance of them
  • Unload, check, handle, store, and prepare all equipment
  • Work across a multitude of environments, including full training
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and technicians to respond to and resolve emergency system faults
  • Maintain personal contact with other members of the team, duty managers, service centre personnel, lead engineer, site person in charge, stores personnel, etc.
  • Work to the directions of the training/departmental managers
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams
  • Work in inaccessible places in dangerous, safety-critical environments
  • Complete work experience logbooks to be produced and communicated on a Friday
  • Wear the correct and always required image clothing
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or higher (or equivalent qualification), including maths, English, and a science or IT-based subject. You must also be eligible to work in the UK and have a full UK driving licence by the completion of the programme. You will need to be over the age of 18 by January 2025 and able to adhere to our drugs and alcohol policy and pass a pre-employment drugs and alcohol assessment.

Programme Details

This apprenticeship is typically 36 months in duration and will provide you with the opportunity to gain a Level 3 Fire Emergency and Security Systems Technician qualification. You will be predominantly field-based with both office and college visits as required throughout the programme. As part of the apprenticeship, you will be required to travel to the college, and Telent will support you with travel expenses as per our expense policy. On completion of your apprenticeship, we hope to offer you a full-time position with Telent where you can continue to pursue your career.
