Invasive Species Survey Technician

Position Summary:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is looking for a part-time technician to engage in the survey and management of Imported Fire Ant populations. This role involves assessing specific areas for the presence of these invasive pests and implementing control measures as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform visual inspections to identify imported fire ant activity
- Gather and record data on the locations and quantities of fire ant mounds
- Secure consent from property owners for treatment
- Administer treatments to mounds confirmed to be infested with imported fire ants
- Operate within designated regions of Virginia
Qualifications:
- Capability to work autonomously
- Familiarity with identifying invasive insect species
- Strong communication abilities
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Experience with GPS devices, ArcGIS software, and navigation skills
- Job involves physical labor
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- High School Diploma or GED is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in entomology, ecology, or a related scientific field.
