Job Title: Process/Chemical Engineer

Biffa Biffa plc. is seeking a highly skilled Process/Chemical Engineer to join our team at the South Kirkby Waste Treatment Facility.

About the Role:

We are looking for a talented Process/Chemical Engineer to take on a key role in the day-to-day control of our facility. As a Process/Chemical Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring that critical metrics are monitored, reviewed, and acted upon, and that performance targets are met.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Drive Safety Excellence: Foster a culture of safety excellence within the facility, ensuring the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues.
  2. Operational Oversight: Coordinate and collaborate with operational colleagues to oversee the day-to-day technical and process requirements of the facility.
  3. Performance Monitoring: Set control limits and charts for all key performance parameters and ensure these are met.
  4. Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality of plant outputs are achieved.
  5. Technical Problem-Solving: Provide solutions to technical variances, including use of root cause analysis and fault finding.
  6. Optimization: Daily analysis of plant data to determine optimal operational setup.
  7. Process Management: Develop, own, and manage a 'process management system' for the facility to become the 'one way of working.'
  8. Training and Development: Develop training and induction material for new and existing colleagues to ensure high operational standards are met.
  9. Staff Development: Train, coach, and develop site staff in all aspects of plant performance.
  10. Reporting: Regular reporting of plant performance.
  11. Process Improvement: Identification and implementation of process improvement opportunities.
  12. Change Management: Management and assessment of all process changes made to the plant.
  13. Benchmarking: Benchmarking wider industries to adopt and implement best practices.
  14. Regulatory Compliance: Liaising with regulators to ensure compliance of the facility is achieved.
Requirements:
  1. Health and Safety: The health and safety of yourself and your colleagues is a core value.
  2. Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, guide, and mentor the onsite team.
  3. Communication: Great communicator with the ability to clearly express technical and engineering matters in a way that enables good decision making.
  4. Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to problem-solving.
  5. Organizational Skills: Well-organized and logical thinker.
  6. Numeracy: Numerate and appreciate the importance of accurate operational data collection and analysis.
  7. Integrity: Honest, reliable, and always behave with integrity.
  8. Education: Degree educated in chemical or process engineering and working towards chartered status.
  9. Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a front-line operational role as a process or chemical engineer.
  10. Lean Methodologies: Knowledge of Lean methodologies and experience with their application within a process/operational plant environment.
