About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary Teaching Assistant to join their team in York. As a Primary Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational delivery of the school, working closely with the class teachers, SENCO, and outside organizations to promote exceptional educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop relationships with young people and foster an inclusive atmosphere for them.
  • Work directly with class teachers to help students reach their maximum potential by providing support, motivation, and encouragement.
  • Create and maintain SEND-friendly classrooms and teaching areas.
  • Offer assistance to children and young people within and outside of the classroom.
  • Assist in leading group activities, supervising group projects, or helping to facilitate group discussions.
Requirements
  • Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant or as an Education Practitioner with Primary aged students.
  • Confidence in managing behaviour within a school setting, using de-escalation techniques where appropriate.
  • Awareness of and knowledge about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH.
  • Ability to quickly establish positive relationships.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or willingness to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
