Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a 2nd Line IT Engineer in Hemel Hempstead, Herts.

As a key member of our IT department, you will play a crucial role in supporting our users, outsourced IT partner, and IT systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine network maintenance, including backups, security measures, and user account management.
  • Test and install new software, hardware, and peripherals within your level of competence.
  • Provide a second-line support role, troubleshooting technical issues and resolving problems.
  • Maintain networks, hardware, and software, as appropriate to your training and competence.
  • Monitor repair logs and take action as required.
  • Check and maintain peripheral equipment, such as scanners, printers, and projectors, to ensure they are functioning and available to users.
  • Maintain inventories of equipment as required.
  • Assist with ordering equipment, materials, and consumables to ensure value for money.
  • Support teaching and learning by providing technical assistance to staff, particularly if equipment malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Ability to diagnose technical issues quickly and communicate effectively with users.
  • Excellent people and communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and analytical approach.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Previous experience supporting users with laptop, desktop, and printer issues.
  • Experience supporting and administrating Office 365.
  • Experience supporting networking devices and functions, such as DHCP, Wi-Fi, routers, and broadband.
  • Experience supporting Windows and desktop software, including Microsoft Office.
  • Basic understanding of cloud concepts.
  • Experience in a similar position.

Essential Skills

  • Assisting with backups, restores, and disaster recovery of the system.
  • Hardware/system monitoring and performance tuning.
  • Aiding in System/software/user maintenance and maintaining system documentation.
  • Setting up administrator and service accounts.
  • Installing system-wide software.
  • Maintaining smooth, secure operation of multi-user computer systems.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or CompTIA A+, are a plus.
