Position Summary

This role as a Cloud Engineer is integrated within the Digital Service team at the Department for Transport.

The Cloud Engineering team is responsible for managing, supporting, and enhancing our cloud infrastructure and application platforms. You will collaborate closely with teams in Live Services, Cyber Security, Information Assurance, Architecture, and various suppliers to develop and uphold our essential infrastructure and services, ensuring compliance with all departmental and governmental security standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, conveying technical information in a clear and concise manner suitable for non-technical audiences.
  • Implement best practices for monitoring, supporting, and maintaining infrastructure technologies and solutions, including compute, storage, software, virtual environments, and cloud services such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
  • Oversee and ensure that agreed quality and service performance targets are achieved, addressing operational incidents and challenges.
  • Provide guidance to other areas of Digital Service regarding all aspects of Cloud Infrastructure and support, including the creation and updating of knowledge base articles.
  • Manage event, availability, capacity, and service asset and configuration management for Cloud Infrastructure.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this position, you should be a self-motivated individual with a strong enthusiasm for technology. A proactive attitude towards learning and personal development is essential. We are committed to supporting all colleagues in enhancing their skills while providing a clear path for progression.

You should possess practical knowledge of cloud-based platforms and ideally have familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Terraform, or PowerShell. The role allows flexibility in terms of technology stack, so any experience with Cloud Platforms like M365, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or AWS is beneficial. While knowledge of the current stack utilized at the Department for Transport is not mandatory, you will be expected to adapt your expertise to the technologies in use at DfT.

Additional Information

It is expected that a minimum of 60% of your working hours will be spent at your primary workplace, although attendance at other locations for official duties may also contribute to this requirement.
