RINA's Maritime Safety Consulting division is seeking a highly skilled Safety Engineering Consultant to join a dedicated and expanding team, focusing on Defence clients across various naval platforms, including surface vessels, carriers, submarines, and unmanned systems. This position presents a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of RINA's Safety and/or Independent Safety Assurance (ISA) capabilities, delivering top-tier safety advisory services to the Royal Navy.
The role can be performed from our offices in Southampton, Chippenham, or Leatherhead, although RINA promotes a smart/hybrid working environment, allowing for flexibility in location. We are open to considering part-time arrangements (PAYE) for 3-4 days per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead diverse Maritime Safety Engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to budget, and compliance with quality standards;
- Manage projects independently or oversee a small team;
- Assist in bids, proposals, analytical tasks, and report generation;
- Advocate for RINA's Safety capabilities to clients, providing expert advice through direct engagement, relationship building, and presentations;
- Support the Safety management team in enhancing safety capabilities to address emerging market needs;
- Note that this role does not pertain to Health & Safety (HSE).
Qualifications & Experience:
- A minimum of ten years' experience in implementing safety engineering management solutions in high-risk environments;
- Familiarity with UK MOD (Defence) maritime/naval platforms;
- Proven experience in conducting Hazard & Safety Risk Analysis or Independent Safety Assurance (ISA) projects, including the development of safety cases;
- Proficient in the use of Safety Engineering tools such as Reliability Workbench, ASCE, BowTie, ETA, or FTA;
- Some knowledge of Defence Standard 00-56 and related regulations, including DSA02-DMR;
- Understanding of UK MOD frameworks (e.g., Aurora);
- Basic knowledge of ASEMS, POSMS, and POEMS processes;
- An engineering background is essential;
- Ideally, candidates will possess UK Security Clearance or be British citizens willing to undergo vetting.
