About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Radiochemistry Group as an Autonomy Software Dependability Scientist. This is a unique opportunity to work on a range of challenging projects, developing and maintaining detection equipment, performing complex radioactive sample analysis, and developing tailored data analysis techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, use, and develop detection equipment such as High Purity Germanium detectors (HPGe) and multi-detector systems.
  • Perform analysis of complex radioactive samples and undertake detailed analysis and software tool development.
  • Develop tailored data analysis techniques to meet unique and specific customer requirements.
  • Participate in multi-national experimental campaigns and work with a range of chemists and physicists across AWE to provide an extensive radiometric analysis capability.
Requirements
  • A degree-level science qualification, preferably in physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in one or more areas of Radiochemistry, Radiometrology, Radiation Physics, Nuclear Reactors, Dosimetry, Detection Science, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • Programming experience in languages/codes such as C++, VBA, Python, Java, GEANT4, MCNP.

  • Willingness to represent AWE externally and ability to travel abroad if required.
