Senior Estimator - Construction Division

Overview
We are seeking a Senior Estimator to become a vital part of our Construction Division. The Senior Estimator plays a crucial role in ensuring that project cost estimates are prepared accurately and consistently, considering construction methodologies and all factors that may influence project execution. This position also involves mentoring Estimators and Assistant/Graduate Estimators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain an organized log of tender documents, addendums, and client communications on the server, ensuring relevant team members receive copies.
  • Develop a sub-contractor inquiry schedule, incorporating feedback from the tender team and procurement department's preferred contractor lists.
  • Distribute sub-contract inquiries, detailing the scope of work and attendance schedules as necessary.
  • Solicit materials inquiries.
  • Foster competitive bidding.
  • Coordinate the preparation of Bills of Quantities (B/Qs) when required or share B/Qs.
  • Conduct spot checks on measurements and bill descriptions.
  • Follow up on tender submissions and update the inquiry schedule accordingly.
  • Generate tender queries.
  • Identify gaps in tenders, compile clarifications, and maintain estimator notes for records.
  • Integrate late changes and amendments into tenders.
  • Assist in compiling risk and opportunity assessments for tenders.
  • Contribute to the creation of a value engineering schedule.
  • Analyze net tender package returns and complete sub-contractor analysis schedules for adjudication.
  • Evaluate individual package requirements for fixed pricing and contingency additions for review during tender settlement.
  • Prepare documents for tender settlement, presenting clear net costings that highlight risks and opportunities.
  • Complete the Tender Sum Analysis for review and issue at adjudication, including cash flow forecasts.
  • Participate in adjudication meetings, documenting notes and implementing necessary amendments for final review.
  • Fill out client pricing documents, including the Form of Tender and Contract sum analysis, for inclusion in the commercial submission.
Management Responsibilities
  • Support the training and development of Estimators and Assistant/Graduate Estimators.
  • Assist in conducting Performance Development Plans (PDPs) with direct reports and ensure actions from individual development plans are executed.
  • Aid in the development and management of bid budgets to maintain financial discipline.
  • Conduct regular reviews of tenders.
  • Review the risk register associated with bids.
  • Help in evaluating inflation calculations.
  • Develop cash flow projections for bids.
Experience & Skills
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills are essential for accurately assessing detailed specifications, costs, and risks.
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • In-depth knowledge of current processes, materials, and costs is required, along with familiarity with estimating software such as Conquest, Causeway, or Coins.
  • A collaborative team player with excellent communication and time-management skills, capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
Qualifications and Training
  • Ideally, candidates should be professionally qualified (RICS / MCIOB or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 5-15 years of experience in the construction industry is preferred.
