Senior Estimator – Civil Engineering

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 + package
Location: Kent
Regions: Kent, Middlesex, South East

A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead a portfolio of high-profile projects from £10 – £50m each. These projects include highways, rail, water, power, and infrastructure initiatives.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a degree in a relevant field and preferably be chartered
  • Have a proven track record of leading pre-construction teams for a civil engineering main contractor
  • Have a successful history of estimating, bidding, and winning design and build contracts

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the national work-winning resource to coordinate and execute the tender process
  • Maintain expert knowledge of the construction market and provide strategic advice to the work-winning business unit
  • Oversee the tender process from bid to award, ensuring commercial and quality proposals are integrated and company procedures are adhered to
  • Develop and manage high-quality written and costed bid material with specialist support from the Proposals Manager and Bid Writer
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive supply chain database to ensure regional capability
  • Effectively manage resources to ensure timely completion of bid deliverables for both financial and quality submissions
  • Develop and maintain strong commercial acumen and supply chain relationships
  • Identify commercial advantages to enhance tender competitiveness and increase margin
  • Have in-depth understanding of construction forms of contract and the impact of value engineering, risk, and programme on the final tendered price

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience in civil engineering infrastructure projects with a value range of £5m - £50m
  • Management experience in a work-winning business unit or bid team(s)
  • Tendering experience through estimating or project management roles
  • Estimating experience in civil engineering infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and estimating software
