Nuclear Safety Inspector Role

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Safety Inspector to join our team at the Office for Nuclear Regulation. As a Nuclear Safety Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe operation of nuclear facilities across the UK.

About the Role

As a Nuclear Safety Inspector, you will be responsible for regulating the design, construction, testing, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. You will work closely with our team to ensure that these facilities meet the highest safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulate the design, construction, testing, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities
  • Conduct inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to facility operators and designers
  • Collaborate with our team to develop and implement safety policies and procedures

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree-level qualification in civil and/or structural engineering, or a related discipline
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Experience of structural design to resist hazard loading and foundation design/construction
  • Knowledge of one or more nuclear/high-hazard facilities
  • Strong communication, decision-making, and influencing skills

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must hold or be able to achieve and retain National Security Vetting clearance at SC level.

Location and Travel

This post may be undertaken from a base at any one of our office locations (Bootle, Cheltenham, or London). You will be required to travel, including overnight stays, predominantly across the UK and occasionally abroad.
