Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Assistant to join our team at a well-regarded secondary school in Hackney, London. As a Pastoral Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing and academic success of students in Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students, helping them manage personal and academic challenges.
  • Work closely with the Pastoral Team and other school staff to promote student wellbeing.
  • Address behavioural issues with compassion and firmness, ensuring students feel supported.
  • Foster positive relationships with students and their families, maintaining open lines of communication.
  • Monitor and support students' attendance, punctuality, and academic progress.
  • Assist with any safeguarding concerns, adhering to school policies and procedures.
  • Be a visible presence around the school, particularly during key times like breaks and transitions, to support student welfare.

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally in a pastoral or student support role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • A caring, empathetic approach, with the ability to manage sensitive situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dedicated pastoral team.
  • A genuine passion for student wellbeing and creating a positive school environment.
