Role Overview:
As a Family Engagement Worker, your primary responsibility will be to deliver essential family-centered casework. This includes conducting assessments, providing advocacy, implementing structured interventions, performing case reviews, and facilitating family visits, both in-person and virtually. Your mission is to foster continuity of care and support for family members and caregivers, enhancing the health and well-being of incarcerated individuals, their families, and significant others throughout and beyond their time in custody.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Family-Centric Assessments: Execute thorough assessments to collect pertinent information, evaluate risks and needs, and devise suitable support and intervention plans involving prisoners, family members, and/or significant others.
  • Intervention Implementation: Administer and evaluate interventions designed to strengthen relationships between prisoners and their families during incarceration.
  • Referral and Support Services: Ensure timely referrals to appropriate agencies and programs within the facility and the community to meet ongoing support and casework objectives.
  • Visit Coordination: Organize and facilitate both in-person and secure video family visits, ensuring that all participants are treated with dignity and respect, while addressing the needs of children.
  • Advocacy and Emotional Support: Offer practical and emotional assistance to families, advocate on their behalf, and ensure their perspectives are acknowledged and valued.
  • Collaborative Work: Collaborate effectively with other teams, prison personnel, and healthcare professionals to ensure that casework and interventions are suitable and impactful.
  • Documentation: Maintain precise and timely case records in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Team Engagement: Support and mentor volunteers, engage in supervision and appraisal processes, and contribute to team and partnership meetings.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Professional Boundaries: Strong understanding of professional boundaries within a statutory or secure environment.
  • Criminal Justice Acumen: Knowledge of the criminal justice system gained through academic study or practical experience.
  • Trauma-Informed Care: Awareness of trauma and adverse childhood experiences through academic study or relevant experience.
  • Safeguarding and Data Security Knowledge: Understanding of safeguarding principles and data security protocols.
  • Relevant Experience: At least three of the following:
    • Conducting structured interviews
    • Assessing individuals and/or families
    • Planning and/or coordinating casework interventions
    • Supporting individuals or families during crises
    • Signposting to other support services
  • Communication Proficiency: Exceptional communication and listening skills, with the ability to build rapport and advocate effectively.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational capabilities and the ability to manage a demanding workload.
  • Emotional Resilience: Capacity to remain composed under pressure and navigate challenging situations.
  • Teamwork and IT Proficiency: Effective collaboration skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Integrity and Professionalism: High standards of personal integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
Desirable Attributes:
  • Volunteering Insight: Understanding and experience related to volunteering roles.
  • Experience in Secure Settings: Previous work experience in a secure environment within the criminal justice system.
  • Volunteer Management: Experience in recruiting and supervising volunteers.
Qualifications:
  • A recognized Level 3 qualification in one of the following areas:
    • Criminal justice
    • Information, advice and guidance
    • Counseling
    • Substance misuse and/or addictions
    • Mental health
    • Social care
    • Youth work
    • Childcare
