Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Greater Manchester Liaison and Diversion Team as a Community Engagement Specialist. This role has been developed specifically for individuals with lived experience of vulnerabilities, including mental health, substance misuse, learning difficulties, neurodiversity, homelessness, and the Criminal Justice System, to support others who may benefit from community support and access to relevant services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide community-based support across the Greater Manchester footprint.
  • Support and promote recovery from vulnerabilities and challenges using a user-led concept.
  • Act as an advocate, agreeing goals with clients and supporting them to access relevant services.
  • Work closely with the Criminal Justice Services and Voluntary sector.
  • Refer clients into and signpost them onto appropriate support services in the local community.

Person Specification

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications and experience:

  • GCSE Maths and English (grades C-E or Level 1 as minimum).
  • IT competency, including MS Office, Outlook, and Word.
  • Lived experience of vulnerabilities, such as mental health, substance misuse, homelessness, or the Criminal Justice System.
  • Support work experience, either volunteering or paid.
Desirable Criteria

We would prefer candidates with the following experience:

  • Criminal Justice System lived or professional experience.
  • Experience of working in tandem with support services, such as ASC, Probation, Drug and Alcohol services.
  • Experience or study of using communication methods, such as active listening, rapport building, and motivational interviewing.
