Position Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Traffic Signal Technician to oversee the diagnosis, repair, installation, and upkeep of specialized electronic and electrical traffic control systems. This role is crucial in ensuring the functionality and safety of traffic management systems across designated areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive maintenance and emergency repairs on traffic signal equipment to ensure operational integrity.
- Maintain an inventory of spare parts and promptly address equipment failures to minimize downtime.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions in traffic control devices.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on traffic signals, ensuring compliance with safety standards and operational protocols.
- Document maintenance activities and repairs in the financial tracking system and maintenance database.
- Collaborate with contractors and oversee their work to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
- Provide technical training and support to staff regarding the operation and maintenance of traffic signal systems.
- Respond to public inquiries and concerns regarding traffic signal operations and maintenance.
Required Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of traffic signal systems and their operational requirements.
- Proficient in using electronic diagnostic tools and hand tools for maintenance tasks.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to operate specialized vehicles.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with various stakeholders.
Additional Considerations:
Applicants should possess a combination of education and experience in electronics or a related field. Certification in traffic signal maintenance is preferred. The role may require working outside of regular hours during emergencies and inclement weather.
