Job Title: Support Worker

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Worker to join our team at The Action Group. As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality support to individuals with epilepsy and PEG-gastrostomy care needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Practice the TAG Key Worker system, ensuring effective handovers between staff and maintaining accurate records.
  • Promote the physical and emotional wellbeing of individuals, supporting them to maintain acceptable and adequate levels of self-care.
  • Develop meaningful and trusting relationships with individuals, helping them to gain insight into their own behavior, attitudes, and reactions.
  • Encourage independence in daily living activities, providing support only when necessary.
  • Promote hobbies, interests, and activities, and encourage participation in community life.
  • Directly assist with personal care as required.
  • Work with individuals to maximize their ability to communicate effectively and promote self-advocacy.
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals when needed, liaising with external organizations regarding benefits, education, tenancy, and employment.
  • Work with relatives and carers of individuals, ensuring they have a significant role in their life wherever possible and appropriate.
  • Find out about local services, amenities, and organizations available to individuals.
  • Work with individuals and groups, according to need.
  • Participate in flexible shift work patterns, including regular working outside weekday office hours.
  • Regularly undertake 'sleepover' or 'waking night' duties as required.
  • Cover short-term absences of Support Workers in other teams from time-to-time.
Requirements:

  • Gets the details right, punctual, consistent, follows procedures, finds out and remembers stuff, and completes paperwork.
  • Not afraid to think, reflects on practice, learns from experience, puts self in others' shoes, and suggests ideas.
  • Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is required. Applicants who are not registered with the SSSC when starting will have 6 months in which to register.
  • PVG clearance is also required. Applicants who are not members of the PVG scheme should be prepared to join before commencing employment.
