About the Economic Consultant/Senior Economic Consultant Position

We are seeking a motivated Economic Consultant or Senior Economic Consultant to become a part of our growing Macro Consulting division, focusing on the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. This team is dedicated to delivering tailored macroeconomic consultancy and research initiatives for both private and public sector clients, addressing a wide array of macroeconomic topics through the application of our proprietary models. Typical projects encompass economic forecasting, scenario assessments, and the development of customized analytical frameworks, covering areas such as global trade, financial markets, and consumer behavior.

Members of the EMEA Macro Consulting team generally manage two to three research assignments concurrently. These consulting engagements typically span from two to six months, culminating in comprehensive reports, client presentations, and/or the transfer of models and analytical outputs. Under the guidance of an Associate Director, the ideal candidate will engage in a blend of technical tasks, including modeling and data analysis, as well as production activities such as drafting reports and preparing presentations, while also playing an active role in client interactions. As one gains experience, the candidate will advance to overseeing consultancy projects, designing analytical frameworks, and leading client engagements.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity to collaborate with a diverse clientele across the EMEA region and various sectors, with potential for international travel. Strong client management abilities are therefore essential. Collaborating with senior colleagues to develop research proposals for prospective clients is also a significant aspect of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead specific components of project work, conducting thorough and precise economic analysis in the execution of consultancy projects;
  • Utilize quantitative analytical methods on extensive datasets employing software such as Excel and EViews;
  • Leverage the Oxford Global Model for forecasting and scenario evaluations;
  • Effectively manage client relationships, responding promptly and positively to inquiries and maintaining Oxford's rapport with them;
  • Collaborate with senior colleagues to compose research proposals, project reports, and presentations;
  • Plan and organize project tasks, coordinating contributions from other team members, ensuring adequate time for quality assurance from senior colleagues;
  • Senior consultants will mentor and guide junior team members;
  • Exhibit entrepreneurial spirit in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for the Economic Consultant role should possess a minimum of two years of relevant experience, while Senior Economic Consultants should have at least three years of experience in a professional economic capacity within either the private or public sector. The successful candidate will demonstrate rigor, adaptability, and creativity in addressing complex economic challenges. The following attributes are essential:

Essential:

  • Master's degree in economics or a closely related quantitative field;
  • Exceptional written English and strong communication skills, including the ability to articulate economic concepts and quantitative findings to non-specialists;
  • A solid understanding of macroeconomic principles and a genuine interest in global economic matters;
  • Extensive experience in quantitative economic analysis and report preparation;
  • Proficiency in applying quantitative analytical techniques to large datasets using software such as Excel and EViews/Stata;
  • Demonstrated proactivity and creativity in utilizing economics to address clients' inquiries;
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering rigorous, accurate work within the constraints of time and resources.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience in employing applied macroeconomic models for forecasting and/or scenario analysis;
  • Knowledge of international trade and associated policy matters;
  • Understanding of the interplay between the economy and the financial/banking sector.
