About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Design Manager to join our Energy Design Team at Clancy. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering various schemes within the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead an established team of designers and engineers to deliver design deliverables within the SSE arena.
- Liaise with Design Leads, Project Teams, Internal and External Clients, and supply chain to ensure compliance to design scopes, CDM, and relevant standards.
- Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability, and quality matters.
- Collate and promote strategic advice and knowledge associated with design management best practice.
- Take a personal interest in identifying, coaching, and developing key staff.
- Promote the use of engineering expertise and advice to add value to the design development process.
- Ensure all programmes, scopes, and reports are updated and communicated regularly.
- Raise any design issues with the Head of Design.
- Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 requirements for both internal and external designers.
- Oversee residual design risk management framework and communicate residual design risks to the risk owner.
- Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.
- Support and produce scoping documents with resource-loaded programmes for Pre-Construction activities.
- Ensure appropriate pre-construction information is coordinated.
- Ensure compliance with design, construction, and safety standards as appropriate.
- Liaise with customers over network design issues to ensure compliance with design and construction policies and standards.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the scope, budget, and timescale requirements to the satisfaction of the client.
- Ensure the design team is fully utilized at all times.
- Participate in reviews and updates of current operational procedures and technical standards.
- Offer consistently high customer service in interactions with customers.
- Act as a role model within the Engineering Team and demonstrate coaching and mentoring for team members.
- Act as an escalation point for customer feedback when support is needed by team members.
- Accurately record and track projects across all workstreams using team trackers and systems.
- Attend site visits.
- Conduct technical reviews of projects.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and teamworking attributes.
- Focus on customer needs and business development skills.
- Develop external and internal relationships.
- Undertake Principal Designer duties where appropriate.
- Demonstrate a strong ability to communicate through sketching, drawing, presentations, and writing.
- Check own and others' work and provide feedback.
- Understand priorities and meet deadlines.
- Produce as-built reports and drawings.
Person Specification
- Master's Degree qualified in a relevant subject.
- Experience working with IDNOs, DNOs, or ICPs.
- Knowledge of DNO drawing practices from LV up to 132kV.
- Commercial awareness.
- Solid understanding of engineering principles.
- Excellent knowledge of CDM.
