Senior Character Artist

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Character Artist to join our Firesprite studio, working on a dark, story-driven 'Narrative Adventure' with genre-defining goals. As a key member of the Character Art team, you will collaborate with the Art Director and other development team members to create photorealistic, AAA-quality characters and creatures.

Your expertise in sculpting, 3D modeling in Maya/Max, and PBR texturing of Real-Time characters in Substance Painter will be essential in delivering high-quality assets. You will work closely with the Character Art and Concept teams, and be receptive to feedback from the Art Director and Lead Character Artist.

As a Senior Character Artist, you will be responsible for producing AAA-quality character models that meet the design and direction, following existing pipelines. You will also collaborate with Technical Art and Technical Animation to ensure all assets are efficient and fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce high-quality character models that meet the design and direction.
  • Collaborate with the Character Art and Concept teams.
  • Work closely with Technical Art and Technical Animation.
Requirements:
  • Experienced Character Artist in games development.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates a high degree of artistic ability, particularly experience of making clothes, hair, and accessories.
  • Able to demonstrate a detailed understanding of human anatomy and proportion.
  • Expertise in sculpting, 3D modeling in Maya/Max, and PBR texturing of Real-Time characters in Substance Painter.
  • An enthusiastic and collaborative nature, self-motivated, positive, and open to feedback.
  • The capacity to address both creative and technical problems.
  • Proficient with industry-standard packages including but not limited to Maya, Substance Painter, ZBrush, and Marvelous Designer.
  • Solid understanding of character topology, and the ability to make well-optimized and animation-friendly meshes.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to schedule, maintain good timekeeping, and self-organize.
  • A good communicator, able to understand technical instruction and share knowledge with the team.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine.
  • Knowledge of AAA hair authoring workflows.
  • Shader knowledge is also a plus.
