About the Role

The Accelerator Controls team at UK Research and Innovation is responsible for the collection and dissemination of all data related to the control and status of the particle accelerator. We use this data to support the crew in the main control room, who use the software we develop to monitor and control the particle accelerators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop web-based tools to guide engineers when naming their PVs
  • Prototype and deploy a web-based tool to automatically create control screens from a list of PVs
  • Expand the existing prototype to implement capabilities for generating more sophisticated screens and monitoring whole areas of the accelerators at once

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement
  • Required or have requested to take an industrial placement year
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement
  • Able to commence employment in summer
  • A software development or computing discipline
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience programming in an object-oriented language such as JavaScript
  • Ability to work with other developers in a team
  • Ability to adapt based on feedback from other developers and users
