Spherical Search is collaborating with a prominent analytical testing and Contract Research Organization (CRO) specializing in inhalation drug delivery, working alongside device developers and pharmaceutical firms to create innovative and safe products.
We are seeking a Senior Specialist in Formulation to enhance our team.
ROLE OVERVIEW
This position requires a scientific and technical authority in aerosol formulation. Responsibilities include:
- Expertise in biologics formulation development, including peptides, proteins, and nucleic acids.
- Advanced particle engineering, particularly through spray drying techniques.
- Dry powder formulation expertise, utilizing various blending techniques and filling processes.
- Liquid formulation capabilities, encompassing solutions, emulsions, and suspensions.
- Experience with Pressurized Metered Dose Inhalers (pMDIs), including formulation, filling, and characterization.
- Development of formulations for nasal sprays, nebulizers, pMDIs, and dry powder platforms, including excipient and process selection.
- Formulation of small synthetic molecules and biomolecules, such as antibodies and viral vectors.
- High-level understanding of physical-chemical characterization to evaluate drug substances/APIs and candidate formulations for viability as drug products.
Business Development Support
As the Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will assist in designing and preparing proposals for new projects, which may involve:
- Engaging in discussions with clients to clarify requirements and develop a comprehensive work plan for proposals/contracts.
- Creating a viable costing model and pricing structure for new initiatives.
- Facilitating technical onboarding of new clients/projects to ensure seamless integration into project execution.
Support for Pharmaceutical Development Teams
In your area of expertise, you will contribute to the delivery of our revenue-generating portfolio, which includes:
- Educating and mentoring team members.
- Reviewing and ensuring the technical and scientific accuracy of reports and protocols.
- Leading discussions and presentations with clients and stakeholders to convey knowledge effectively.
- Resolving technical challenges encountered during project execution.
- Making critical scientific decisions to advance projects and justifying these decisions to stakeholders.
Collaboration with Customers and Regulatory Agencies
You will engage in collaborative product development programs, which may involve:
- Participating in calls, workshops, and technical discussions to leverage your expertise.
- Leading cross-functional teams to address critical challenges and advance the company's technological capabilities.
Research and Development Oversight
Your role will include conducting and governing innovative research in aerosol-based delivery technologies, focusing on:
- Defining project scopes, including business cases and execution plans, while collaborating with other teams.
Continuous Improvement and Representation
You will play a key role in enhancing the company's capabilities and reputation by:
- Presenting at conferences, conducting webinars, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
- Serving as a scientific leader and role model within the organization.
Technical Expertise
Act as the technical authority in inhalation/aerosol formulation and delivery technologies, providing support to customers, team members, academic and industrial partners, regulatory agencies, senior management, R&D, and business development.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION
- Essential: A first degree in a scientific or pharmacy-related discipline with a minimum grade of 2.1.
- PhD in a relevant field is preferred.
- Essential: Extensive experience in formulation development within the drug delivery sector, particularly with peptides and/or proteins.
- Strongly desired: Expertise in pharmaceutical aerosol formulation development, spray drying, and bioavailability enhancement strategies.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in advanced development functions within the pharmaceutical industry, leading exploratory product development programs.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
