About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health and Safety Adviser to join our team at Edwin James Group. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in promoting good health and safety practices throughout the business and developing a positive safety culture.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategy: Take a leading role in promoting good health and safety practices throughout the business and developing a positive safety culture with tactical plans that continually improve performance.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with leaders and supervisors to ensure business objectives relating to health, safety, and environment are met. Ensure accurate reporting against KPIs.
  • Meeting Facilitation: Lead Safety Committee Meetings and act on feedback.
  • Compliance and Auditing: Support the team to ensure the on-going compliance of the company's Integrated Quality, Environmental, and Health & Safety Management Systems with certified ISO standards.
  • Site Audits and Inspections: Complete operational site audits and inspections to achieve health and safety compliance at site level, report back findings, and ensure corrective actions are in place.
  • Client and Contractor Engagement: Work with clients and sub-contractors to build alignment with our approach to health, safety, and environment. Provide technical health and safety advice in accordance with current legislation and good practice, including CDM.
  • Risk Management: Design and support the implementation of risk control techniques, promote the use of suitable resources, and oversee systems to manage risks effectively across the business and at sites.
  • Incident Investigation: Carry out required incident investigations to ensure that they are dealt with appropriately and that incident root causes are identified and acted upon.
  • Occupational Health Support: Assist in occupational health matters relating to the physical and mental health of staff with the appropriate level of intervention, to ensure the correct advice and direction is given to the workforce at all levels and that a consistent response is provided by our supporting professionals.
  • Legislative Compliance: Act on relevant legislative changes and organisational requirements, helping to develop and implement solutions where necessary to maintain compliance.
Requirements
  • Proactivity and Self-Motivation: Proactive and self-motivated, capable of identifying tasks that need attention without direct supervision.
  • Problem-Solving and Communication: Practical problem-solving and skilled at creating straightforward solutions to achieve goals. Clear communicator with an ability to explain rules clearly to everyone and make a good impression on those in charge and the team on the ground.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal skills with the ability to adopt different approaches and styles of influencing to foster effective working relations with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, at both business and site level.
  • Qualifications and Experience: Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or NEBOSH Health & Safety Management for Construction Certificate. An excellent working knowledge of current legislation, codes of practice, guidance, and operating procedures. Proven track record of success in implementing effective management systems compliant with ISO, ISO, and ISO.
