This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated and knowledgeable Accessibility Leader to join our team at DWP Digital as the Director of Accessibility Strategy.

As the Director of Accessibility Strategy, you will spearhead the Accessibility profession within DWP Digital.

This role is pivotal in a developing field of expertise that is gaining prominence within our organization.

DWP is the largest government department in the UK.

Currently, we are leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative approaches to drive a transformative digital overhaul, creating products and services that serve millions of citizens effectively.

Key Responsibilities:


We are seeking an individual to lead our accessibility initiatives, focusing on creating systems and tools that comply with accessibility standards across DWP Digital.

Your contributions are vital.

You will oversee the accessibility of our systems and tools, ensuring that all employees have the necessary access to perform their roles and that every DWP user can obtain the support they require.

You will establish and uphold best practices while influencing, guiding, and mentoring others.

Collaborating with other leaders to provide a cohesive service to Digital functions, you will offer best practice advice on operational methods and accessibility.

Understanding the Role:

As a Director of Accessibility Strategy, you will be tasked with cultivating a community of proficient, engaged, and effective Accessibility professionals.


Your role will empower our workforce to excel, establish standards, and ensure our Accessibility teams are equipped with the necessary tools and environment for effective delivery.

You will advocate for accessibility at senior forums and champion initiatives across the government, assisting in decision-making and service development that benefits everyone.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of accessibility principles

  • Exceptional leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, capable of building relationships at all levels and influencing senior decision-makers on service development
  • Proven experience in crafting and executing capability strategies to enhance team skills
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptation to emerging trends
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and providing developmental opportunities
