The Head of Academy Sports Science and Medicine shall be responsible for managing and delivering the Sports Science and Medicine/Performance Support Programme for all Academy players registered with the Club.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the sports science and medicine provision for the academy, ensuring a high level of service delivery and excellence in all aspects of performance support.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve the physical profile of athletes, in line with the physical demands of football, and work closely with technical coaching staff to design training programs that optimize physical performance and fitness, while reducing injury risk.
- Lead the multidisciplinary team in elite professional sport, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality sports science and medicine services.
- Evolve the academy performance plan to allow for physical development and progression from foundation phase through to the first team, ensuring a seamless transition and optimal player development.
- Oversee the provision of field-based, gym-based, and classroom-based sports science interventions throughout the Academy, ensuring a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to performance support.
- Lead the review and analysis of injury audit data, feeding back key information to relevant members of the multidisciplinary team to inform decision-making and improve performance.
- Collaborate with the Head of Education to support SEP and HE qualifications for U18 players, ensuring a strong focus on academic and personal development.

- Complete all Kitman Labs requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Participate and lead in Academy department meetings, contributing to the development of strategic plans and initiatives.
- Provide regular CPD opportunities for all members of the Academy Sports Science and Medical Team, ensuring ongoing professional development and expertise.
- Ensure departmental KPIs are targeted and met, driving excellence and continuous improvement in sports science and medicine services.
- Aim for self-development by participating in internal and external CPD events, staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in sports science and medicine.
- Shall have recent and relevant professional experience in a sports performance environment, with a strong understanding of the demands of elite professional sport.
- Hold a recognized qualification in sports science or a related field, such as a master's degree in sports science or a related discipline, and have or be working towards British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences and/or British Psychological Society accreditation.
- A current EFAiF or an equivalent or higher qualification approved by the Board, demonstrating a high level of expertise and knowledge in sports science and medicine.
- Recent and relevant professional experience in a sports performance environment.
- Recognized qualification in sports science or a related field.
