Position Overview: Senior Standards Assessor - Vocational Qualifications in Sports, Coaching, and Playwork

The Senior Standards Assessor serves as the primary authority on specification interpretation and standard verification across various programs within a Principal Subject Area (PSA). This role involves overseeing assessment and internal verification processes to ensure compliance with national standards across multiple centers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough sampling of assessment and internal verification records for Sports and Coaching Qualifications within the PSA to confirm adherence to national standards.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to centers based on the findings from the sampling process.
  • Assist centers in delivering Work-Based Learning (WBL) Sports and Coaching programs to meet compliance requirements.

Core Accountabilities:

For Work-Based Learning Sports qualifications, the Senior Standards Assessor will:

  • Perform sampling of learner submissions within established guidelines to verify that assessment outcomes and internal verification practices align with national standards.
  • Offer sector-specific advice and support to educational centers.
  • Generate comprehensive reports for centers and Pearson detailing the sampling activities, outcomes, and support provided.
  • Recommend actions such as limited certification or deferral when assessment or verification processes do not meet national standards.
  • Develop targeted action plans for centers to rectify any identified issues regarding national standards.
  • Facilitate centers in understanding and implementing the necessary actions.
  • Communicate findings back to Pearson and centers in accordance with agreed service-level agreements.
  • Provide resources for the standardization of assessors and internal verifiers as required.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities pertinent to BTEC Assessment as needed.

Required Experience:

  • Possess a formal teaching or training qualification recognized by an HEI or an equivalent qualification awarded by a recognized awarding body at Level 3 or higher.
  • Demonstrate substantial experience and knowledge in sporting excellence, skills, and development.
  • Provide evidence of occupational experience relevant to the role.
  • Exhibit a minimum of two years of experience in sports excellence and development.
  • Maintain current occupational expertise through at least twenty-five hours of professional development annually.
  • Show willingness to engage in online training and utilize technology for communication and support.
  • Have experience in delivering and assessing Sports and Coaching programs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Extensive recent experience in verifying qualifications within the vocational education sector.
  • Assessor qualification.
  • Teaching or training qualification at Level 3 or above.
  • Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) Award.
  • External Quality Assurance (EQA) Award.
  • Significant experience in delivering and assessing vocational qualifications.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in vocational assessment and delivery.

Competencies:

  • In-depth understanding of the educational landscape and regulatory frameworks for qualifications.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the specifications relevant to the role.
  • Exceptional report writing and editing skills.
  • Strong communication, IT, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to comprehend the implications of decisions made on behalf of Pearson.
  • Proven people management capabilities.

  • Access to personal IT equipment capable of running required software.
  • Reliable internet connection.
  • Secure personal email account.
  • Availability of 8 to 20 days per year based on sector needs.
  • Adherence to contractual terms and conditions.
