Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Software Development Engineer to join our team at the University of Reading. As a key member of our High-Performance Computing (HPC) team, you will play a critical role in providing and supporting HPC services for UK environmental science research and the NCAS Science Strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement high-resolution modelling workflows and data management plans to support numerical modelling systems and related codes on a range of computational platforms.
  • Manage underpinning software on traditional and emerging Exascale platforms, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with weather and climate scientists, research software engineers, and computational modellers from partner organisations to develop and implement innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to the process of community consultation and interactions with researchers, stakeholders, and users to ensure that the modelling system can accommodate foreseeable design requirements.
  • Develop a leading role in the NCAS/NERC community in the use of modelling systems and HPC environments.
Requirements
  • Strong background in software engineering, with a focus on parallel programming environments and HPC data management.
  • Proven experience in software development, testing, and support, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and principles.
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and priorities, with a flexible and proactive approach to problem-solving.
