Software Engineer - Sports Analytics

Compensation: £60-85k (with an appealing guaranteed bonus)

Location: London or Leeds (Flexible hybrid working options available, typically 1 day in the office per week, but can be adjusted.)

We are seeking to fill 4 positions at both mid and senior levels.

Our client is a data-centric sports forecasting firm specializing in odds generation, trading, and risk management.

Role Overview:

  • Design and develop high-quality software solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Optimize cost efficiency while maintaining clean software architecture.
  • Ensure applications are operationally ready.
  • Collaborate with business peers to discuss, understand, and refine requirements.
  • Provide technical support and consultation to the business.
  • Mentor junior software developers.
  • Participate in peer reviews to uphold internal software quality.
  • Drive and support process enhancements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guarantee high-quality design, coding, and unit test coverage.
  • Assist the software development team in implementing code quality standards.
  • Support technical decision-making within the team.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments in the development domain.
  • Understand and apply established processes within the development framework, promoting continuous improvement.
  • Gain knowledge of the domain, technologies used, and developed software solutions, sharing insights across teams.
  • Consult with the business on requirements analysis, scope, dependencies, effort estimation, and decision-making.
  • Assist relevant peers in preparing for software releases.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Strong technical education with professional experience in software development.
  • Familiarity with .NET and .NET Core, along with proficiency in C# and object-oriented programming is preferred. Candidates with experience in similar technologies will also be considered.
  • Experience with microservices and web APIs, including message brokers, in-memory caches, and databases.
  • Front-end development skills (React) are advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to design software considering various factors such as scalability, performance, maintainability, reliability, reusability, security, and usability.
  • Proficient in writing maintainable, efficient, reliable, and robust code.
  • Capable of creating unit tests, including mocking, to ensure necessary code coverage.
  • Understanding of GIT and software versioning practices.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
