Job Description

Unix Engineer - £420/day via Umbrella - Contract

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Unix Engineer to ensure the smooth operation of our Unix and Linux Servers. This role involves supporting production and development environments, disaster recovery services, and providing assistance to developers, operators, and users within the Virtual Unix Team (VUT).

Your Responsibilities as the suitable Unix Engineer:

  • Ensure the security of Servers and services under VUT control.
  • Install software packages, upgrades, and patch sets to supported systems.
  • Oversee backup processes for system and user data, and supervise file store allocation and use.
  • Perform routine system administration tasks on various Unix Servers and respond to help desk calls.
  • Write and maintain Shell Scripts on Unix/Linux systems and review Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and work instructions.
  • Perform daily checks to ensure Unix/Linux systems are operational and raise calls for any software and hardware faults.
  • Ensure mandatory processes and tasks are completed on time and provide technical support to all users.

Your skills as the perfect Unix Engineer:

  • SC Cleared or willing to apply for SC
  • A working knowledge of Operating Systems Linux and AIX.
  • Knowledge of IBM or Lenovo hardware, virtualisation, Oracle Exadata.
  • Knowledge of IBM storage and management tools.
  • Knowledge of Oracle KVM.
  • Experience with Data Protector or other enterprise backup products.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of Unix/Linux systems and their administration.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
