About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Stroke Medicine Consultant to join our dynamic team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to patients with stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA) symptoms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide hyperacute stroke management, including intravenous thrombolysis and hyperacute TIA care, for patients admitted under the stroke team.
  • Manage patients on the acute stroke unit, working closely with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team and providing consultant support to the medical team.
  • Enhance and support outpatient stroke clinics, focusing on secondary prevention and life after stroke, at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and satellite hospitals.
  • Provide on-call cover for stroke on a 1 in 8 rota, with a 5% on-call intensity supplement.
  • Participate in monthly clinical governance meetings within the department and contribute to the training of medical students and student physician associates.
Requirements
  • Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration within 6 months of CCST in geriatric medicine/neurology/acute medicine.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of managing hyperacute and outpatient stroke patients, including delivering intravenous thrombolysis, TIA clinics, and stroke rehabilitation.
