Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Practitioner

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and highly motivated exercise practitioner to join our team at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in Cardiac Rehabilitation and prior experience of working with patients managing long-term conditions in a gym environment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Conducting comprehensive clinical screenings and exercise assessments for individuals with cardiac disease and related comorbidities.
  • Supervising patients during the exercise component of the cardiac rehabilitation program, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Monitoring, recording, and progressing patients' exercise programs in accordance with agreed guidelines, protocols, and treatment regimes.
  • Collaborating with senior exercise staff to ensure the exercise component of the cardiac rehabilitation program is clinically effective and of high quality.
  • Preparing and delivering holistic health promotion and patient education for individuals attending cardiac rehabilitation and their carers.
  • Providing expert advice to patients and carers in various settings, promoting healthy lifestyle choices and disease management.
  • Participating in local service audits, evaluations, and research to improve cardiac rehabilitation outcomes.
Key Requirements
  • Level 3 qualification in Sport and Exercise Science or a related discipline.
  • Registered Exercise Professional - Level 2 & 3 Exercise Instructor.
  • Educated to degree level in Sport and Exercise Science or a related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Excellent knowledge of the aetiology, pathophysiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of cardiac disease and its related comorbidities.
  • Strong understanding of exercise pre-screening, assessment, supervision, and demonstration for individuals with cardiac disease.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with sensitive situations.
  • Ability to recognize own limitations and seek advice when necessary.
  • Strong understanding of the cause, process, and associated risk factors of cardiac disease.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, supporting and enabling effective teamwork.
  • Emotional resilience, with the ability to manage distressing and emotional situations.
  • Ability to travel to and work across multiple sites, as required.
