Position Summary

The Stephen James Partnership is collaborating with a prominent global financial entity in search of a seasoned legal professional to assume the primary responsibility for Cybersecurity and privacy matters across the EMEA region.

This role presents a distinctive opportunity for a skilled lawyer from private practice eager to transition into an in-house position within a global organization, or for an established legal expert already within a financial institution seeking to elevate their career.

The Privacy legal team is dedicated to addressing cybersecurity, privacy, fraud, and operational challenges. You will serve as a trusted advisor, collaborating closely with business units to support key stakeholders on various matters.

Key Responsibilities

The position will encompass (but is not limited to) the following duties:

  • Provide guidance on all privacy, cybersecurity, and fraud-related issues throughout the EMEA region
  • Act as a subject matter expert on privacy and data security legal requirements
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on complex privacy and data protection challenges, particularly concerning emerging technologies
  • Advise on the legal requirements and limitations regarding the collection, storage, and sharing of client and employee information, including data localization and transfer restrictions
  • Provide counsel on regulations surrounding surveillance, monitoring of electronic communications, and the use of tracking or profiling technologies
  • Serve as the lead legal advisor in response to information security and operational incidents
  • Develop and maintain notices, policies, and procedures related to privacy and information security in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Stay informed about current EMEA privacy laws and regulations.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • 7+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in privacy and cybersecurity law (England & Wales qualified)
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a knack for devising practical solutions to legal challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; the role necessitates a polished executive presence
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certification is advantageous but not mandatory
  • A technical background and familiarity with information security principles are preferred but not essential
