Job Title: Assistant Professor

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in food science, enology, fermentation science and technology, viticulture, horticulture, or a related field of study. They will be responsible for planning and implementing field or laboratory research, publishing peer-reviewed articles, and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in food science, enology, fermentation science and technology, viticulture, horticulture, or a related field of study.
  • Develop and implement research projects, including planning, execution, and evaluation.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Communicate research results to stakeholders, including the public, policymakers, and industry professionals.
  • Supervise students and postdoctoral researchers, as needed.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in food science, enology, fermentation science and technology, viticulture, horticulture, or a related field of study.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing field or laboratory research.
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate research results to diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with wine grape and wine production, and/or grapevine physiology.
  • Experience with analytic quantification of flavor/aroma metabolites.
  • Postdoctoral training or experience in a relevant field.
  • Successful grantsmanship.
  • Experience as an effective supervisor or team leader.
