About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Waste Management Operative to join our team at Essex County Council. This is a hands-on role that involves managing and controlling all tipping hall operations, ensuring the safe and efficient loading of articulated vehicles, and maintaining smooth traffic flow within our waste facilities.

Your Responsibilities

  • Operate front-loading shovels and 360-degree wheeled materials handlers to move, load, and transport waste safely and effectively.
  • Manage site users, ensuring compliance with site rules, health and safety regulations, and environmental policies.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections of plant and equipment, reporting any defects promptly.
  • Assist with site maintenance tasks, including routine cleaning and spill containment.
  • Liaise with supervisors and contractors to schedule repairs and servicing of equipment.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in operating heavy machinery, such as shovels and loaders.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety regulations within a waste management environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
