Position Overview

RINA is seeking a Power Systems Studies Team Leader to enhance our operations within the Power Division. This role is based in a hybrid work environment, allowing for flexibility while leading a team of skilled engineers.

Role Objectives

The Power Systems Studies Team Leader will be responsible for guiding and overseeing a group of specialists in power system analysis. The focus will be on delivering projects with excellence, optimizing resource management, and fostering interdepartmental collaboration. The leader will also play a vital role in business growth, achieving financial objectives, and contributing to recruitment and training initiatives to meet the organization's aspirations.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership
  • Serve as a technical and commercial mentor for the team.
  • Provide direct management for engineering personnel across various locations.
  • Supervise administrative tasks such as timesheet management, leave approvals, performance reviews, and training.
  • Coordinate with department heads to ensure optimal resource distribution and project execution.
  • Assist in recruitment and training processes to build a competent workforce.
  • Drive business development and sales efforts to meet financial targets.
Project & Quality Oversight:
  • Guarantee high standards in project deliverables.
  • Manage team projects and assist in maintaining project backlogs and timely billing.
Technical Expertise
  • Deep understanding of power system steady-state and dynamic analysis.
  • Proficient in compliance studies related to generation and power quality.
  • Experience with circuit breaker switching transients and insulation coordination.
  • Knowledgeable in protection coordination and Arc Flash analysis.
  • Familiarity with techno-economic evaluations, basic system design, and equipment specifications.
  • Experience with HVDC systems and sub-synchronous oscillations.
  • Competent in automation and scripting for power system analysis tools.
Preferred Skills
  • Modeling experience with software such as PSCAD/EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and PSSE.
  • Knowledge of grid connection applications for generation and load to transmission and distribution systems.
  • Technical due diligence experience for power projects.
  • Design and specification expertise for substation equipment.
Software Proficiency

Must be proficient in at least three of the following software: PSCAD/EMTDC, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, ERACS.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with the grid integration of renewable energy sources and related grid codes.
  • Familiarity with working alongside grid system operators, power generators, developers, EPC contractors, OEMs, and consulting firms.
  • Proven expertise in steady-state, RMS, and EMT-type power system analysis using industry-standard simulation tools.
  • Understanding of steady-state, RMS, and EMT models for key power system components, including battery energy storage systems, solar PV, synchronous generators, HVDC interconnectors, wind turbine generators, transformers, transmission lines, and reactive power devices.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and straightforward manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities within a team setting and ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Self-motivated and recognized as a subject matter expert.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Capable of supporting business and team leaders by producing high-quality proposals and providing customer support while reviewing power system models and reports.
