Job Overview

The Neurodiversity Tutor will provide support to learners with complex needs who require additional assistance or an advanced program of learning to achieve their full educational potential.

HMP & YOI Bronzefield is a diverse and complex prison population, including women with restricted status, women on remand, and those with chronic mental health conditions.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Education Manager, SENCO, and Head of Learning & Skills to improve the quality of provision for prisoners with neurodiverse needs.
  • Liaise with other departments to ensure learners with neurodiverse needs receive support to develop self-confidence, independence, and improve their knowledge and skills.
  • Support the development of neurodiverse provision within the prison.
  • Work with individuals with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties, and mental health conditions.
  • Ensure learners with special or additional needs can access education and the whole curriculum.
  • Have a strategic overview of neurodiversity and inclusion throughout the prison, including planning, policy writing, advising, and supporting other staff.
  • Identify individual needs and create a safe, stimulating, and supportive learning environment.
  • Initiate and carry out assessments and prepare assessment paperwork.
  • Ensure quality assurance procedures are adhered to and used to achieve high standards.
  • Assist in developing behavior policies and procedures to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Be a visible presence around the department, contributing to a calm and purposeful atmosphere.
  • Work with other teaching staff to ensure activities reflect the needs of prisoners within subject areas.
  • Support and train other teaching staff to provide the best quality support for all prisoners.
Requirements
  • Full teaching qualification (Minimum of CTLLS) or PGCE.
  • Minimum of two years of qualified teaching experience.
  • Good understanding of the SEND code of practice.
  • Recognised Level 3 qualification or above in an identified subject and professional experience focusing on a particular learning difficulty.
  • Interest in the rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through different mediums.
  • Ability to manage confrontation and challenging behavior.
  • Patient, understanding, and empathetic approach.
  • Positive, energetic, and enthusiastic outlook.
Desirable
  • Experience working in a custodial or prison environment.
  • Assessor or Internal Verification qualification.
Package Description

£33, - £38, per annum + London weighting.

Regular Monday – Friday pattern.
