About the Role

We are seeking an experienced IT Project Portfolio Manager to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our project management team, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing a portfolio of IT projects, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Portfolio Management: Oversee and manage a portfolio of IT projects, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and objectives, prioritising based on strategic value, resource availability, and risk.
  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with senior leadership to define portfolio strategy, ensuring it aligns with business objectives, reviewing and adjusting the portfolio to respond to changes in business strategy or external factors.
  • Team Management: Manage a team of project managers and allocate them across the portfolio to ensure optimal use of skills and capabilities, providing leadership, guidance, and mentoring.
  • Financial Management: Develop, manage, and track portfolio budget and performance, ensuring that projects are delivered within financial constraints.
  • Reporting and Governance: Regularly report on the status, health, and performance of the portfolio to executive leadership, implementing and maintaining governance frameworks to ensure consistent project delivery across the portfolio.
  • Professional Development: Develop the skills and capabilities of the project management team, identifying training and development needs.
Requirements
  • Proven Track Record: Have a proven track record of delivering large-scale IT programmes, applying good financial acumen, strategic thinking, excellent communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership skills with experience managing a team of project managers and working cross-functionally to support delivery.
  • Industry Knowledge: Have a strong understanding/knowledge of current IT trends and technologies.
Desirable Qualifications
  • AMP, PRINCE2, Chartered PM: Hold AMP, PRINCE2, or Chartered PM certifications.
  • Engineering Industry Experience: Have experience in the Engineering Industry.
