Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Early Years Practitioner to join our team at Midlothian Council. As a key member of our Children, Young People and Partnerships Directorate, you will play a vital role in shaping the educational experience of our young learners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of Early Years Practitioners, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality care and education for children.
  • Develop and implement effective service plans and programs to meet the needs of our children and families.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to promote innovative and creative practice in Early Years education.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of local and national policy, research, and legislation related to Early Years education.
  • Provide leadership and support to ensure a culture of quality and excellence in Early Years practice.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a Childcare environment, with a practitioner-level qualification (e.g. SVQ3 in Childcare & Early Years Education or an HNC in Childcare and Education).
  • Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and possession of the Level 2 Child Protection and Risk Assessment and Process Training.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work under pressure and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Passion and flair for working with young children and families, with a commitment to equality and social inclusion.
  • Experience of developing self-reflection and evaluative skills, with the ability to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of young children's learning and development.
Desirable Qualifications
  • BA in Childhood Practices
  • Froebel qualification
  • Experience of supporting children with Additional Support Needs (ASN), knowledge of positive behavior strategies, and experience of using a family learning approach to support children and families.
