Job Title: Sensory Support Assistant - Vision Impairment

We are seeking a skilled and experienced teaching assistant to join our team as a Sensory Support Assistant - Vision Impairment. The ideal candidate will have a recognized Braille qualification and prior experience of successfully supporting VI children and young people in a learning environment where Braille and pre-Braille were being used.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support VI children and young people in a learning environment where Braille and pre-Braille are used
  • Work closely with the VI team to provide advice and support to visually impaired children and young people aged 0-25
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote access to learning, independence, inclusion, empowerment, progress, and attainment for VI children and young people
  • Collaborate with other specialist teams in the borough and with partners in the health service to provide a comprehensive service
Requirements:
  • Recognized Braille qualification, for example UEB Online or the RNIB Certificate in Contracted Unified English Braille (UEB)
  • Prior experience of successfully supporting VI children and young people in a learning environment where Braille and pre-Braille were being used
  • Familiarity with working in a diverse multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to offer an additional community language as well as Braille
